This is the old 1/76 scale Airfix Mk.I tank that I rebuilt as a Mk.II. |
The Airfix has some wrong details for a Mk.I, in fact it is closer to a Mk.II. Not so strange if what I have read is true. It was said that the original that Airfix used as a pattern was a Mk.II that the museum had added the tail wheels to as there was no Mk.I to show. |
This is an old kit that I built as a Mk.I when I was a kid and the tail wheel had been torn away a couple of times. I decided to restore it as a Mk.II and replace the Mk.I with a new kit (that never got built). I skipped the tail wheels, added some missing beams to the roof and on the top of the sponsons. |
I tried to convert the Airfix kit to a Mk.I Female long before Airfix decided to do one. |
(Model finished 1998) |
I built a new roof with an circular hatch and scratched a grenade screen on top of it. |
Sadly, my information’s of the side sponsons weren't correct. Mine became symmetrical instead of being a bit narrower at the front. For a long time, I had plans to replace the faulty sponsons with Airfix parts but never got around to it and now there are new kits out in 1/72 scale so I will probably scrap this one |
