Sd.Kfz.231

This is the Sd.Kfz.232 from Italeri built without the frame antenna to make a Sd.Kfz.231.
(Model finished 2005)

This is not a rerelease of the Matchbox 1/76 kit. It is larger and different.

For some reasom I like the shape of it.

Sd.Kfz.232

Built straight out of the box.
(Model finished 2005)

But I don't get it. Some parts are very thin and good looking, mostly small details, while other parts aren’t up to date. Fuzzy details and ill fitting. With most detail-parts like boxes, lights, antenna, one must guess the position to place them. There is no sign on the plastic on where to place them.

The antenna posts have some pins to be placed in holes that are missing. It feels like it has been made in the 1980'th (but with some details made now). If I would rate it, I would give it a three out of five.

Sd.Kfz.234 series

I built the Sd.Kfz.234 series using the Italeri kit as a base. At first, I planned to build the Roden kit but the engine deck looked strange. When I found a photo of the real thing taken from above I noticed that everything was placed too far back. Together with the rear being too long (according to reviews) made it look bad.
My first thought was to relocate the engine deck but doing that on four kit wasn't tempting. Then I bought the Italeri Puma to see if I could use the 234/1 parts on that and just rebuild one Roden hull. But when I tried the Roden roof on the Italeri hull I found that the Italeri kit was narrower than the Roden kit. When I compared the same photo with the two Puma kits I found that the Roden kit is wider on the hull roof in front of the turret than the picture. The Italeri kit looked more like the photo so now I decided not to use any Roden hulls.
Moving the engine deck is one thing but if I must rebuild the hull at the front as well I won't bother.

I had bought a Sd.Kfz.234/1 and 234/2 (Puma) from Roden but then turned to Italeri. I bought two Pumas and started on them using the roof and the turret from the Roden Sd.Kfz.234/1. Then I bought an Italeri 234/3 and finally the Italeri 234/4. The kit is really awful. The top and bottom parts of the hull doesn't fit and that cause the fenders to miss fit. The suspension also interferes with the fenders adding to the problems with the kit. But mixing parts helped me finish them.

On the 234/3 I used the interior parts from a Roden 234/2.
On the 234/4 some parts of the Roden drivers set was used.

This is the 234/2 with an brake drum made from a lorry wheel in 1/87 scale and the 234/1 Italeri-Roden combo.

The 234/4 got the gun shield scribed to look like a spaced armour. I also swapped the old Esci gun with an Fujimi PaK 40 gun. It is of course in 1/76 scale, but it was still too long to fit without some sanding in the rear. The 234/3 is almost out of the box. I used the Roden Seats and steering wheels for these two kits.

The Roden kit

Now I had the first Roden Puma left. I didn't want to waste it even though it doesn’t look right so I decided to display it on its back after a date with an Jabo. I also opened some hatches.
