In February 1986, two years before the first flight the press was invited for the unveil of the Gripen. A mock-up was shown and as I already had built the Viggen mock-up I decided to build this one too.

| With the few pictures available I tried to modify the Italeri kit into the mock-up. The most visible part was the fin. There were also some openings in the fuselage that needed to be filled. |
| The original giant model was supported by metal bars and I wanted them on my model, so I mounted it on a base to make it easier to build. |
| The colour scheme is also something that makes it different from the real planes. |
