Afterburner prototype J 29D

Afterburner prototype J 29D To build a Matchbox J 29F straight out of the box was my intent just for relaxation. The Matchbox Tunnan is something special. Large ditches for panel lines on the fuselage but raised lines on the wings. Well I was prepared to live with that as I was going out of the box this time, but the fact that the main landing gear bays was 9 mm to long was another thing.
(Model finished 2011)

OK cutting the doors 9 mm and make a new wall of plastic card in the bay isn't a big job. Let’s do that.

But now it isn't out of the box any more. Let’s scribe the lines on the wings as well, that is only a small job. But those ditches in the fuselage doesn't look nice. What if I would fill them with putty and sand them they might look a bit better.

Isn't the jet exhaust very tiny? If I cut a piece of an old pen I get a tube that might fit instead.

While at it, let’s mount a tube in the nose as well.
Oops. This turned out to be more work involved than anticipated. What happened with out of the box?

Well this didn't go as planned so I could just as well remove the sawtooth on the wings and backdate them to the early type. Then I would have the single prototype J 29D which was the first with afterburner.

The main wheels were very thin. If two wheels are sanded down and glued together I would get a fatter wheel.

Using a resin seat in the Austrian J 29 left me with some etched seat belts left over. I might just as well add them to this plane.

Hmm. It doesn't look to bad.

It is finished. I must replace the main landing gears. The ones in the kit is so thin that they bend.

I found a scrapped Heller Tunnan that I liberated of the landing gear. But now I feel that I should repaint it as well.
