Savoia S.79

I had plans to finish this for a model show in april 2007 but failed. For some reason the project died, but the following year I tried to finish some things that just lies around and this was one. I think the kit was given to me at som time and I wasn't sure what to do with it. I had thought about a plane from the civil war in Spain but instead it became one of the planes from the Istres-Damascus-Paris race in 1937.
(Model finished 2008)

The next S.79 will have the humps removed. I have the Pavla conversion kit for the Italeri kit. But the humps are really correct for this individ. I was a bit surprised when I was looking for pictures of Corsas in the Squadron's "S.79 in action". There was a picture of a racer with the humps so I read the text and found out that when one of the Caprionis defaulted a S.79 bomber was entered as well. So that gave me a reason to build the old Airfix kit I had.

But just now I saw that the starboard engine exhaust is mounted on the wrong side for a pre-1939 plane. The decals are my own. I had an ALPS type that broke. It left lines unprinted so I had to put on two layers of decals so it didn't rally turn out that good. It look better on pictures than in real life.

I have only seen one picture of this plane and looking at it now makes me wonder if the "hump" under the fuselage is really there. So my model might be off anyway.
