Spitfire Mk.IXc

Back in 2017 I decided that I would do a couple of parallel builds of some old and new mould Airfix kits.
The Spitfire Mk.IXc seemed to be a good choice.
(Models finished 2020)

Old and new. Both kits had decals for the same pilot: J.E. "Johnnie" Johnson but for two different planes.

When I was looking at the old rivet monster I remembered that I have an old resin cockpit from Cooper Details and thought that as it would never be used I could just as well put it in this kit.
But it was probably a mistake. I had been looking at the latest Mk.I kit and noticed that it had an interior and assumed that the new Mk.IXc had it to. Well, I was wrong so perhaps it would have been better to use the Cooper set on the new kit.

More of the Spitfire parts that will never be used goes in to the old mould spit. The exhausts on the old kit look odd and I found some new in a box.

I also found some Aeroclub landing gear and some resin guns. I broke one of the guns and it had gone missing so I needed a new.

What to do when the nose became a mess?

Dive in to the spare part boxes .

A little blue looks nice on the grey.

I don't understand why I do this. I hate to paint and there are invasion stripes on the decal sheet so why did I decide on painting them?

Painting didn't turn out a complete disaster. Some minor touch up is needed.

Finally, I managed to start on the decals...

The old rivet monster.

The new kit.
